Yikes! I saw the most horrendous play last night. Afraid of the Dark was a piece that was supposed to frighten the audience with suspense and terror, and it has some cheap/fright moments (tossing rice from the balcony in the dark just after a monologue about insect larvae falling from the ceiling), but it was BAD. Again, I see an "American" play...not by choice...most of the dialect was manageable...one guy had some problems, but the were trying, so hard, to convey the feel of a 1950's style, no one communicated with each other on stage. I was bored and it think the rest of the audience was as well.
Decent theater space, but under Charing Cross station, so you had train noise...but that happens in NY as well and it might have played in to the creepiness if they let it. They had, at least 6 moving lights, but really did nothing with them....hmmmm, I wonder if they were to notice if they disappeared.
It was a 250 seat house, and had about 180 people there. But, I did get a nice picture on the bridge just outside the theatre...
